I think that my trailer is ready to make the road trip to TX ( 340 miles one way). I bought 2 new ST175/80/D13 tires today, fixed all the lights, greased the wheel bearings, greased the jack, and greased the coupler. Am I forgetting anything?
An INFLATED spare tire to be exact!
(BTDT)<br /><br />Seriously, here's a list I think I cobbled together from various advice on this forum, I don't think it adds anything to what you've done or others have suggested, but here goes anyway:<br /><br />Trailer maintenance<br /><br />Tire pressure. Set (cold) to max tire rating.<br /><br />Check wheel lug nut torque (every 500 miles)<br /><br />Bearings. Repack once per season (fall) and maintain bearing buddies.<br /><br />Check all bolts for tightness (seasonal-fall).<br /><br />Check coupler and chains.<br /><br />Check operation of ALL trailer lights before each trip. Carry spare trailer light bulbs and a few small sections of wire with the appropriate connectors, etc. <br /><br />Check the spare tire. <br /><br />Remove the lug nuts every other year or so. That way you won't have a flat on the road and find that they are so rusted on you can't remove them. Use anti-sieze.<br /><br />Make sure the ball and coupler have some grease on them.<br /><br />Make sure you have a jack and lug wrench that will work with trailer.<br /><br />Check all tie-down and winch straps, safety chains, and cables.<br /><br />While enroute, check wheel hubs for excessive heat every time you stop to make sure they're not over heating. Its just a matter of degrees from being up on your luck to down on your knees!
