Several years ago, I picked up a nickle plated Winchester Gallery Gun, in near perfect condition for $20.00, I ended up giving it to my Dad for Christmas one year, not an octagon barrel, but it is a nice shooting gun, I would have to give him a call to get the exact model number off of it, but it was a great score..Looks a lot like the top gun in WIMUSKY's picture, but all nickle plated.

Those pretty laminate stocks and most laminate stocks are made here in Rutland VT by Rutland Plywood. If you google Rutland Plywood....they make some nice laminates........ they even make a laminate so tough it can be buffed to a luster. The wood they use for the laminates is actually birch or ash that has been dyed. Pretty nice operation and they employ many people in town.

LOL when I ordered my Rock River ......... I requested OD green stock, grip and handguards so it would not be "evil black" but, it really is :D

Just like the rest of the crowd, I've got a 10/22. This one is a limited run from 1990. Only 500 were made in this stock color combo....I've also got a couple of Ruger Targets, a mid-60's MK I and a 90's MK II....FWIW, I know lots can tell the difference in a MK I and MK II, for those of you that may not, the MK II is the polished one. That shine job is a bit of my winter handiwork.:)

Re: ok ordered new Ruger 10/22!!!

I was hoping to get it this year but the economy just hasn't helped at all so I will have to wait one more year. I was all setup last year but figured it was too much money for the economy and since things have not turned up for me yet I will wait another year but things do look to be improving, I have already purchased the reloading dies though!! The only problem I have is that I will have to purchase gunpowder in a much larger scale soon!!

I am currently in possession of my buddies guns, due to a melt down on his part, the local Sheriff, turned them over to me so they didn't end up in the system, but he had just bought a Armalite that he had done the conversion on, it is a match grade weapon. very nice gun, and very sweet to shoot, I am glad I live in a small town and am friends with local law enforcement, it would have been a shame to loose this gun, reminds me of the good ole days..I am also glad, I got my FFL when I mustered out....it has been fun to play with..

Re: ok ordered new Ruger 10/22!!!

I have often considered getting an FFL but so far staying under the radar has been more important with things the way they are. I hate to sound paranoid to some but I feel I am just very cautious, I also have a very good relationship with the local law, problem for me is that the Sheriff will not sign off on NFA weapons for anyone, he's a great guy actually and his argument is pick your battles he has not entered any CCW permit holders into the state database, thats the battle he decided to fight so I can't argue with him. I had planned to form a trust and go about my toys that way but like a few other things the market collapse stopped that in its tracks! Can't justify toys when I can't put food on the table!

Thats too bad about your friend I hope things are going better for him...

The big thing was to get him some help, and I am thankful that he is now getting it, he really needed it. He is a Desert Storm Vet as am I, but he just never seemed to be able exercise those demons...I am thankful I was here, when the crap hit the fan!..and I will be happy to turn them back over to him when he gets well...

After spending 26 years as a military officer, I don't really worry to much about being on the radar, I worked in the Pentagon, as well as other areas, so they know who I am! So I don't worry to much about it any longer..
