Hi- starting to look at possible kickers for my 1972 Starcraft 18 ft Holiday . Mainly for back up and tight quarters manuvering. Seems like 9.9 hp would be ideal but may have OK deal on a 6 hp 4 stroke Nissan . Is that definitely too small or maybe adequate ? Also are one cylinders like these a lot rougher running than 8 hp and up 2 cylinders ? Thanks

A two cylinder will run smoother than a one.

Is your current motor a VRO? If not then your using two different gas supplies / tanks. If you have a 2 stroke non VRO then I would look for a 2 stroke kicker.

I have a 7.5 a kicker on a 21' Mariner, idle is just under 1mph and it will go a little over 5 at WOT. You may want something with a little more power if your going to use it a lot or if you want some security in case of a breakdown.

It also depends on where you boat, fast rivers and large bodies of waters, would merit a bigger kicker.

Good luck.
