I believe you can find the Quicksilver full-synthetic 25w40 as well as a Quicksilver oil filter at Wal-Mart for a pretty good price. That's the recommended stuff for my 2010 4.3L, and I think it's the same for earlier models.

I would highly suggest getting a manual for your motor/outdrive combo, everything you need to know will be in there and how to do it as well. Money or time well spent!!!

Re: Ok time for first oil change.

What type of oil and filter goes in a 3.0l Mercruiser. 2000 model?

Howdy,

If you're changing your oil, and it's the end of the season for you Don't forget that you should also be winterizing and changing the oil in the drive too before you put it up for winter.

If you take it to a dealer for this service, they should also be pulling the drive to inspect U-joints and bellows and checking alignment when they put it back on.

The following link has some info you might want to have a look at.... The owners manual will have details on what needs to be done and how often.

Regards,

Rick
