I have a Motorguide Great White model gwt52v - - it does not have a reverse switch - can I simply reverse the polarity of the battery connection to make it run backwards, or would this hurt it?

Thanks for your help.

Sandy

I don't know,Sandy. But I accidentally hooked-up my Motorguide T-30, and it was an hour before I realized I was controling in reverse of the way I normally ran it! No harm done.
Try a quick, momentary contact to the battery, while observing the prop.
If it turns, you'll be fine. Mine did, albeit, a different model.

It should not hurt anything, unless you happened to be use a remote controller.
Polarity, in a dc motor, is how rotational direction is controlled. There are switches available that would achieve this for you.
Mike
