For me it is easy.

1 - "Dove", the story of a teenage boy who sailed from Hawaii to mainland North America. Produced in the late 60's or early 70's I think. This was what life was all about then, facing your dangers and learning from them to become better people.

2 - "Room with a view", a love story beginning in England, travelling to Italy and eventually returning to England. A time of ladies and gentlemen. Completed with such aplomb that it apotimises all the love stories I've seen before or since! Produced I think in the early 90's.

Best silent film - "Off the edge", a feature length film made about hang gliding from the top of our very own Alps to the sea. There's a music background throughout. I think we heard four words spoken altogeather! 1980's I think.

Ross

Ditto and Ditto, Jack Shellac

"The only movie that I make any effort to see every year or so is "Cool Hand Luke". My favorite western was actually a TV movie "Lonesome Dove". Maybe the greatest western movie of all time."

In addition, "The Patriot", "Forrest Gump", "Platoon".

Re: Okay here goes... Best movie ever

Collecting movies is one of my hobbies. I have over 300 movies now. I sure can't pick just one.

Sci Fi: Blade Runner
Horror: John Carpenter's The Thing
Drama: Glory, although The Color Purple is very good
Comedy: Raising Arizona

Someone mentioned Quest for Fire. Not sure if your mixing it up with something that Kubrick did. Jean-Jacques Annuad was the director. I did enjoy the movie and saw it 4 times in the theater.

There are a lot of good movies. I do like Casablanca a lot, The Maltese Falcon, Africa Queen are all good Bogart movies.

I would rank The Lord of the Rings Movies near the top. His Girl Friday, Stalag 17, Horatio Hornblower, Saving Private Ryan, A Simple Plan are great.

One of the worst was Ishtar. That was unbelievably bad. Also Highlander II, I almost told people waiting in line to get in to forget it now and get their money back.

I do have a soft spot for living Dead movies like Dawn of the Dead and Return of the Living Dead parody, and even Army of Darkness.

The deer hunter was a good movie. I finally got to see it this year in it's enitrety.

I believe the one with the people fighting with chainsaw while wearing hogs heads was Motel Hell. If that was not it, then it was Texas Chainsaw massacre, but I think that just had the guy wearing his mother's face like a mask. I haven't seen those for many many years.

Yous guys could probably tell by my choices, that I'm am a devout Kubric fan. And being a "Kubrician", I can state that it was not a Stan-the-man film.

But I sort of put myself on the spot here, and will now try to remember ALL of Kubric's masterpieces.

1950 - Day of the Fight

1953 - Fear and Desire

1955 - Killer's kiss

1956 - The Killing

1957 - Paths of Glory

1960 - Spartacus

1962 - ****** (or Low-Lee-ta For the benifit of the automated censor).

1964 - Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

1968 - 2001: A Space Odyssey

1971 - A Clockwork Orange

1975 - Barry Lyndon

1980 - The Shining

1987 - Full Metal Jacket

Lucked-out, and found the list online. Whew! Forgive me for not knowing by heart, oh Stan the great!

I have yet to see Barry Lyndon. I have heard it is long, but not much else about it. I also have not seen Paths of glory and earlier.

There is one more Kubrick film, although the editing was unfortunately finished by someone else.

Eyes Wide Shut

Interesting movie.

I would have loved to see the result if he had directed the A.I. project instead of Speilberg. Not that A.I. was not a good movie, but Kubrick would have taken it to a different level instead of following the standard happy (or semi-happy) ending type movie.

Hi Lost Canadian, now that's funny, thanks.

Regarding the question;..."Key Largo" with Humphrey Bogart. Trivia question, what was the name of the boat used in the last half hour of the movie??

As I recall the boat was called "Sultana".
