Old 4.5 HP Mercury can't fiqure out year

Mercury 4.5 HP Serial# A105145 black with heavy metal cover - I assume its late 60's or early 70's I can't find it listed in the charts.

I replaced the impeller in a 1978 Merc 45 (4.5 hp) today. The s/n on the data plate was 5070807. Sounds like you got the number off of the engine, and is not the correct number.

I also just replaced the impeller, the guy at the dealer said its a 1984 but I don't think so and would like to confirm before I try to sell it. It has 4.5 on the sides so I don't think its a model 45. The number on the power head is 105145 (No "A" prefix) the number on the metal tag is A105145. When did they go to plastic covers on these as this is a heavy metal cover with the recoil in it. Could it be from the 80's ??????

Well, I still do not know the year but did learn today it will not run with the lower unit off, wow I fought with it for a while trying to start it with no lower unit, no go, then I poped it back on it it started first pull. I guess Mercs like the back pressure! I'm still haveing an issue with the water pump after replacing the impeller - not cooling

Can anyone advise the year of this thing?
