I have been enjoying this site for a while, time to jump in.

I have been looking at C-list boats for a while, saw a cheap one (the only ones I look at), found out it was located about a mile from my house. Took a look. No one was in love with this old boat. Seller said "we need it out of the yard", nice to hear that. "Hasn't run since last summer, engine quit". The engine did not look too bad, so a deal was made, now I own my first ever IO, a 1980 Mercruser 470, pre-Alpha out drive, according to infromation found here. http://mercstuff.com/howdoi.htm

I do a bit of car repair, so I thought I might get this old thing started.

So, I put in a battery, turned the key, got a crank out of the starter, nice:)!

Pulled the plugs and cranked it over a bit, get the oil moving. Fuel to the carb, no spark from the plugs. Voltmeter determined no juice getting though the balast resistor (been a while since I have seen that setup). "Repaired" the resistor, and after some cranking, and finding the choke arm, got the thing running. Outdrive shifts, trim goes up and down. Pretty good stuff. I just wish the boat was not totaly fried, floor is falling in, exct., exct.

I have seen the rebuilds guys do, not sure I think this is the right boat for me to jump into that much work with. I listed it on C-list, but am not sure that is the best place to move it. Any advise on getting this little projet to the last chapter would be great.

The pictures and 1 short vid are at photobucket. http://s755.photobucket.com/albums/xx192/bendie1/1980 Galaxy/

Thanks.
