I happened to be looking at an elderly 70 hp Evinrude 3 cylinder engine the other day. Looking closely it looks like Yamaha copied that engine or Evinrude copied Yamaha. Anybody else ever notice this? I recall that Mercury claimed that Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki were dumping motors in the US. I alo recall that they won that case. Which is the better engine - a 70 hp Evinrude/Johnson or a 70 hp Yamaha?

No they are definitely not copies and not the same .... I seized a 70hp johnson once (stock standard) ..... still to seize my 70hp yummy .... 6 years later (modified) ..... still going strong ...

PS. you can also hear the difference, there is no other motor that sounds as nice as a yamaha firing up and being rev'ed ..... :)
