Old boat, New gauges

I have a 79 90hp mercury, original harness (boat side, motor harness is brand new), and I beleave I have the original trim pump that came with it. I will be installing a new bilge pump. I want to purchase new gauges, speedometer, tach, trim gauge, volt. I was wondering if all gauges are standard. Will all Teleflex brand of gauge work with what I have?

If you buy gauges for an outboard -- yes. I/O gauge sets usually have water temp and oil pressure gauges that you typically can't use on a two stroke outboard. Water temp is certainly a gauge you can use but it also requires a sender for the engine. Oil pressure would be ok if you had a four stroke outboard. The trim gauge must be compatible with the sender on the engine and vice-versa.

Thank you Silvertip, for the verification. I'm about to spend about $300 on a set up.
Last question: Is there some way to help find out what is compatible with my trim? It has two wires running behind the hydraulic cylinder to the trim hinge, both are violet. Possibly, one is violet/black. I do not expect you or anyone to go out of their way to check on this, with that said, if you don't know about it right off the top of your head, don't worry about it. I will be researching it in the mean time.

that's the trim limit switch (which probably doesn't work)... there is no trim sender for these, you just have to turn your head and look

make sure your tach has a 12 pole setting

gauges you can use:
.... tach, water pressure, speedo, (if you have a pitot), volts, water temp (but you'll need a sender), fuel (if you have an on board tank), and hour meter.

Btw, are you anywhere near louisville?

Ok, I know I will need the pitot for the speedo. I beleave that has nothing to do with the motor:redface:. I will do with out a trim gauge and save $50 or so. Thanks for the heads up about the limit switch Smokeonthewater. I would have spent a week trying to get that thing to work, then I would lose it. Owensboro area here btw.

well owensboro is a bit of a haul from here lol..... yeah the pitot just screws to the transom.... you COULD also consider a gps speedo

If you've read my build thread on my "free boat" you've likely noticed that I'm running an old tower of power too.

I just took a quick sample of your thread, smoke, but pictures make a story much more enjoyable. I will be glad when the mods get the problem resovled. Would like to see the tower. I'll read more on your thread in a bit when things settle down around the house. (Have two wonderful children)
