I have a pontoon with a 81' 70 Johnson. It runs great! I'd Imagine if it hasnt been run in 10 years you probably have a good low hr engine.

welcome to the forum.

1986? it's just barely broke in good!

you have one of the most reliable motors ever made there. check out the "awakening a sleeping outboard" thread in the Engine FAQ section of iboats.

at a minimum, rebuild the carbs & replace the water pump impeller, change the lower unit oil. at least a thousand if you take it to a shop...less than a hundred if you have basic tools and a good shop manual.

drain the fuel lines for sure, and the tank.

Premix 50:1 87-octane gasoline to tcw-3 certified oil until you know whether the VRO is pumping oil. champion QL77JC4 plugs gapped at .030

That motor is horrible! You should send it to me immediately just to get it as far away from you as possibble.
Kidding of coarse(you could though) as stated that is an exellent motor and with a small amount work it will do you well for years to come.
As jtexas said, if you have any mechanic ability at all you should be able to do those things yourself and have a really nice motor.
If you have to take it to a shop ask around and see if you can get recomendations on a good shop.
