Old Chrysler ignition switch

I just got a Chrysler 35 HP outboard from the early(?) 1970's. The model is 355HG. It has electrical start but the ignition switch was missing. I've looked in the Seloc manual but am still uncertain about what switch I need. I know I need a 3 position switch with 6 terminals but I'm not sure if I need one where you push the key in to activate the choke. Can anyone help with this? Thanks.

Elbert, If the choke is seperate you would have a button for it.You certainly could run your choke<br />with the push style key switch reguardless.The basic circuit is the same.<br /> The only diagram I have shows it wired to the key switch.(55hp magnapower ignition)<br /> My West Bend diagram for a 35 ,circa 1965 ,shows<br />a push button. (west Bend was purchased by chrysler in 65)

i had the same problem with my chrysler 105hp. I ended up using a battery cut off switch with key and a push button starter. On my motor the positive wire had to be connected to both magneto wires and the ignition wire to be started, so i ran positive on one terminal and the two magneto wires and the ignition wire on the other terminal of a battery cut off switch and it works fine. Its just an idea for a cheap alternative to the proper ignition key if your interested.

Had the same dilema with a 70's 120 chrysler. I ended up getting a quicksilver ignition switch. I am looking at the wiring diagram now and it shows exactly how to do it. Any other questions let me know.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I know what I need now and I've ordered a new switch.<br /><br />Now I just have to hope I didn't damage anything. Being new to outboard motors, when I first got it I went to the auto parts store and bought a regular automotive ignition. When I couldn't get any spark at the plugs, I started digging in the Seloc manual and discovered that you can't use an auto ignition switch. Hope I didn't damage the coils or anything else. I guess I'll know in a few days when the switch arrives.<br /><br />Thanks again to those who have replied. I just started monitoring this forum and have learned a lot already. This is a great site!
