Old Clinton 7hp engine

I just got an old Clinton 7hp engine, can anyone please help me find out what year it is, and where I might find some information about possible rebuilding. Thanks AFDan52

Welcome to iboats, Dan.<br />The engine you have is no longer in production. I can't assist you much with it, and can't even tell you how old it is, or where to find parts (outside of the link I'll put at the bottom of this).<br />But I can tell you that the company no longer exists, and thier are no aftermarket sources.<br />You can luck-out sometimes, by matching-up the old parts with another make or model, or by taking it to a machine shop.<br />Here is a link that may be of some help;<br /><br /> http://www.laingsoutboards.com/ <br /><br />The best place for parts is in old boat yards,and small motor repair shops (lawmowers and such). Dan, I have a Sea King made by Clinton for Monkey Ward. Try bobber at: bobber@mmcable.com He has lots of stuff.

I just bought an old 7 hp Sea King made by Clinton...Do I have to have this motor in the water to run the engine or can I run the engine to tune it up outside the water....Am not new to motors but am new to outboards....Thx in advance

Dan <br /><br /> need ser number or model number prefer the model number,<br /><br />shortstop-----your engine has to be in the water if it has a water pump there are a couple of engines that need not be in the water like the cruise and carry but need more info like a model number------

Hi Shortstop<br />I would suggest that you make a little stand and run all outboards in some kind of tank w\water in it. First is for safety reasons. Would you work on your lawn mower with an ungaurded blade flying around? Second the water will provide some resistance to help keep from over reving the motor. Even if your motor is air cooled, it's something to think about. Good luck have fun.
