I have an old Clinton 5hp that I recently acguired, and after normal maintainence took it out on the lake. It runs great, starting the first pull. But after running for a while, just quits and won't start for awhile. It has a new spark plug, and it is never fouled, anyone have any ideas how to solve this?

Is the air vent screw on the tank open? That's the usual cause for this problem.

Make sure you are using a 16:1 fuel mix using chainsaw (or weedwhacker) oil.

What you are getting sounds exactly like a chainsaw being run on 50:1 with outboard oil.

When the engine stalls, check and see if you have spark at the plug. I have had a coil get hot and shut down the engine until it cooled off. Just a thought.
