Re: old echo info

Thanks Steelspike, I will get a pix asap. I'm 68 and not yet old.
This motor is not much different in years. Says ECHO on starter rope pulley.
Bear with as I'm new to computers and old outboards.

Re: old echo info

OK, you'll need to use a host site to get us the pics.I've been on here for 9 years and I've yet to try to get up some pics.
I have a 41 Johnson TD15 in the garage thats 2 years older than I am. So you and I are in the same time frame.Theres lots of guys here that can help you out.
Did a very brief look around no Echo yet. Could be a limited private brand from a more recognized company.

Re: old echo info

re:mrcrabs reply. I looked at your page--my word!!!! I do see a remarkable likeness. I couldn't enlarge to get a better look, old comp. new hand? I went out and looked at my motor, found 462 prefix on carb only , nothing on lower end. Champion eh? WellI might have to pull than gas tank and stuff off ebay, see if any fits on this motor. I appreciate your input, as I am very new to old outboards. Only have about twenty and some pieces of stuff.

Thanks much, jaybow

Re: old echo info

The Disc with the pushbutton and the tillotson AJ16A carb looks like a Scottatwater,Scott or even a MCCulloch built 3.5/3.6.All the same builder with SA purchased by McCulloch in 56.Spark lever looks right. They built motors for a number of private lables.

Re: old echo info

:DThanks again Steelespike. Ifeel I am getting closer all the time. This old motor seems to have good ? compression. Fair over all condition, some leakiness about the gear box. But I BELIEVE she might live to kick again. I certainly hope so. I aim to see. My efforts to do so have been enhanced by the good folks on iboats forums. Somebody said something about the differance between a hobby and an addiction??

Re: old echo info

I'm baaack! I believe you nailed it steelespike. First let me say somebody has had aholt of this motor and stuck some other kind of pull rope pulley on top. Having gained enough confidence to go into it, lo! wrong pulley. I believe it is a Scott or Scott- Atwater. I have looked in Intertec's manual and McCullough [Scott] has virtually all this motors ear marks. Tillotson carb, water pump, etc. The main differance is the mold pattern on the head. Manual only go0es back to '55 so this may be older. I have a running '47 Scott-Atwater 1-16 that I never had to get into. Except the front cover of gear box, which has the top two "ears" broken off. I bandaided that with a wire bail, like on a milk bucket, it holds lube. The good part of the former ownership is it is like new under the mag. Water pump good. I RAN IT today, a carb cleaning and gas tank and to the water!! I might have found these thing out by trial and many errors. But then I would not have met so many good folks. Much abliged, and I've got more motors. jaybow:)
