Hi, I have a question reguarding an older ELGIN outboard.
My nieghbor wants to sell me an older ELGIN motor, but I'm not too sure if it's worth buying untill I can find out some background info on it.
The model # is 571.58772 the seriel # is 772.58772

I know it needs work , but I don't know what parts may be interchangeable with other motors or where I can get the parts I need to fix it to running condition.
It looks in good shape but it has been sitting for so long , I know I'll need to boil out the carb and give it a good tune up.
First, I need to know what year it is and what horse power is it.
Second, where can I get a service repair manual and where can I get replacement parts?
He wants $20 for it. Do you think it is worth buying or should I keep looking for a newer make and model?

Thanks. greybiker nescopaul@tds.net

Thanks, the info you gave me was very helpfull. I'm going to contact SEARS for availability of parts.
For $20, I think I'll buy it anyway.

Hey, I forgot to add this link. Now, the guy who host this link can only have a certain amount of internet traffic on it per month. So, if the internet usage is used quick, then you have wait until the beginning of the month to gain access again. It is a good information site just for Elgins, so it is worth the wait.

Also, there are knowledge guys at www.aomci.org that can help you out as well. You join the site just like this one and yes it is free.

Thanks for the info.
I got in touch with SEARS parts division and they have no parts or manual for the ELGIN anymore.

Thanks, I will try what ever info anybody wants to give me.
I have my own machine shop so I can make some of the parts that I may need, but I would have to find most of the tune up parts and carb parts.

Thanks again for your help. Paul ( greybiker )
