Hi all... I have an old Evinrude Big Twin 40hp outboard on my 16ft boat. I was wondering how I could find out what year the engine was made. I was able to get a few numbers off of the engine but am not sure which one is the model number. Do any of these look like a model number? 307759, 307306AC, 40652B, E01271. If anyone knows, that would be a big help as I would like to try to find some parts for it. Also, this is probably a dumb question, but I am knew to working on boat motors. I was recently replacing the fuel lines on the motor when I noticed a part that where the fuel line from the tank and the fuel line from the carb both connect. What is this? Is it a filter? If so, is it something that should be cleaned/replaced regularly?

Any help with these things would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Murben
Your motor is a 1966. The part in question sounds like the fuel pump with a sediment bowl fuel strainer attached. Yes clean this strainer and bowl when necessary. 40652B is the model #. I didn't look to see what type pump you have, it may have a little differnt strainer/screen, same diff.
