I just bought an old Evinrude motor Evinrude 25022. The engine has not been ran in 5 year. I put new gas in and it started the first pull. I don't think the water-pump is working. What steps should I do to get this engine running safe. The water-pump is the first thing I am going to look at, but what else should I check and replace?

Well, you've got a 1956 30 HP. Since you have already started it, I assume you must have the pressurized fuel tank (or it has been converted to a fuel pump). I'd run a compression check first & if it checks out good, I'd replace the water pump. Then you can start it up without fear of damage. You should also check the coils, points, & condensers (located under the flywheel). Those old E'rudes are great motors in my opinion and well worth putting a little $$ into.
Good Luck,
Backlash

That's a 1956 30hp you've got there, by the way.
The water pump impeller should be replaced every two years, especially if the engine has been sitting. So go for that like you said. On that engine, there's no thermostat so you should see water gush out the large hole on the back of the 'leg' a couple seconds after you start it.
That covers the cooling system. Next, drain and replace the lower unit oil. Examine the old oil you drain out for signs of water intrusion or chunks of metal. Replace the drain and vent screw seals while you do that.
It's fairly common to have ignition problems caused by age-cracked ignition coils on these engines. Make sure you can jump a 7/16" gap with it's spark from each spark plug lead. Replacements are cheap and available, and for under $50 you can replace the whole ignition system. It sounds to me like your ignition system was recently serviced since you're not experiencing problems, so there's probably no problem here.
The best maintanance item you can buy is a service manual. Iboats sells them, libraries lend them, and you can buy superior OEM manuals here:
TheOutboardWizard
Mastertech
Marine Engine
Ken Cook

Good luck!

EDIT: Looks like Backlashes and my post collided in the ether. Pardon, Backlash!

Thanks Backlash. I will check these items. Is a water-pump an easy part to find for this old of a motor, and will this be an expensive part to replace.

Easy. Lots of 'consumable' parts are still in production for your engine, and it's usually not too much trouble to find NOS parts that aren't in production.
Iboats and NAPA autoparts offer 18-3006 which is the impeller alone for around $13. You can get the whole pump including a new housing and wear plate from your local Johnny/Rude dealer, I belive it's PN 379774 but check to be sure, for around $50.
