old fuel

the fuel in my tanks has been sitting for about a year, would this have a negative affect on how my motor idles. I plan on buying a new tank this weekend, how and what do I use to clean out the old tanks so I can use atleast one of them as a spare, they a six gallon metal tanks. thanks once again to everyone who has helped with all my other questions.

siphon it into 5 gallons cans, use it to cut the grass. use seafoam in your gas mixture, along with the regular mix. it's really good for the engine. if you have a 4 cycle mower, call the city or county, they should have a chemical disposal site.
