Old Gasoline

I have about 1/4 tank (aprox 9.5 gallons) of old gas (regular unleaded) in my 38 gallons gas tank. This gas is about 10 months old and, due to ignorance, was not treated with a gas stabilizer previous the subsequent 10-month boat storage. The engine starts OK and was recently sea-tested for aproximately 15 minutes by a mechanic after an impeller repair.

What do you suggest my course of action should be:

A) drain/siphon the old gas
B) keep old gas and top off tank with premium gas
C) keep old gas and add an octane booster

The engine is an 06' 4.3L Carb Mercruiser 190hp.

Any comments and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Re: Old Gasoline

I would just fill the fuel tank all the way up.

Re: Old Gasoline

10 months is not old. Just put gas in it and run it! I've used 2 year old gas with no problems. (I did mix it with new gas though)

Cheers,

Re: Old Gasoline

I was just running on 2 year old gas. I'd just run it all out and put fresh gas in, or at least mix it. No sense in wasting it.

Re: Old Gasoline

Add STP (or other brand) gas treatment per the recommended dilution rate, then fill the tank (if you already filled the tank, add some anyways).

The gas in the tank is good enough, but if you didn't run stabilized gas through the system, you could have some gumming that you want dissolved.

Just fill it and enjoy.

Skip the fuel additives - the ethanol that is already in the gas will dissolve any "gumming" that happened over the winter.

Also, Skip the premium fuel. It offers no benefit over the cheaper blends.

Re: Old Gasoline

After reading everyone's responces, I felt great relief... I thought I was "deep water" and in worse situation with this 10-month old gas in the tank.

I really appreciate all your replies, you guys are the best!

Thanks a million, Andy

Re: Old Gasoline

Be happy that your not putting in a full tank with these prices. Looks like you got half a tank for cheap.
