I have an old Johnson engine that I do not have a manual for. It is a 2 cylinder all aluminum
casing, ser # 203292, model 0A 65. It also has a retard and advance control lever. I would like to know the year made and also if any one has a manuel,

Thank you Bobby R.

Re: Old Johnson Engine

That is an old one, Bobby. It's even older than JB!!

1933 2.8HP

It uses Champion C7 spark plugs and a 24:1 fuel mix. I would guess the plug gap at .030 to .040".

I suggest that you contact the Antique Outboard Motor Club International (aomci.com?) for more detail and a source of a manual.

Good luck. :)

jb:
I tried your suggestation and have now ordered the manuals. This is the first time I have found out anything about the Motor, I really appreciate your assistance.
By the way do you happen to know where I could find what it is worth?

Bobby R

Re: Old Johnson Engine

How much it's worth...tough question. It all depends on finding a willing buyer who wants that outboard for his/her collection.

Condition is everything on those old collectible outboards. Absolutely everything. Running condition is good, but it's less important, really, than cosmetic condition.

Tank dents, corrosion, missing graphics...all detract from the value.

One place to check is on eBay, searching in completed auctions. The problem is that there are so many "antique" Johnsons that it can be hard to find an equivalent to yours that has been sold.

I'm seeing 30's Johnson outboards on eBay going from anywhere from $100 to about $400. Some of the really rare models bring more than that, but it's unusual.

So, you won't get rich on your motor, I'm afraid. But...getting it restored is a fun project, for sure.
