old johnson no spark

i have a 66 johnson 33 hp electric start and it has no spark.i bought it for 40 dollers off craigslist and it looks like it sat up for a while and points and ect have been replaced.The points are not grounded out and the kill has been cut.the runaway motor switch is disconected and im not getting any spark.any help what it could be or how to test it.thanks jason

I would start with the points and condensor. Also what condition are the coils in? Are they all cracked and damaged?

And compression, while you're at it. Best to find out now that it is bad, than after you pour money into it.

That $40.00 could be awful expensive.

figured it out the spark plug wires were bad.Now next step the motor is hard to start.all they all like this.I mean like it turns over slow.and also how do i hook up a rpm gage and can i hookup a heat gage.thanks Jason

Make sure all your connections are clean and good. Make sure your battery is a good battery and fully charged. If this dosnt work then the starter may need to be rebuilt or replaced.
