First off I'm new to here to this forum and to outboard engines.

I recently decided that since I live on a small lake in West Central Minnesota and I can't play golf 5-1/2 months a year that I needed a new hobby. Namely screwing around with old boats and motors. I am no mechanic, but I am mechanically inclined having built several homes, working on my cars, repairing old vacuum tube amplifiers etc....

My 11 year old son recently asked for a old boat that he and his buddies could go fishing in, so I ended up with a 1958 model E 12' Alumacraft, a 1958 AD-12 7.5hp Johnson, 1958 FDE-12 18hp Johnson, a 1956 CD-13 5.5hp Johnson, as well as a 1971 6R71 6hp Johnson and 16' Pipestone fiberglass boat that I already had.

We plan on putting the 18hp Johnson on the 16' Pipestone after applying Herculiner gray bed liner and a fresh coat of paint to the boat. The FDE-12 is a tough pull for my kid so it's lucky that it has electric start.

Anyway, hello all.

I may have a few (hundred) questions in the coming months.

I tried to post a few pics but was unsuccessful.
