I was wondering if anyone knows of a place that sells reconditioned teak or new teak for older mako boats. I have a 1971 17ft center console and have two pieces in the rear that cover the box's and the two hatches I would love to replace. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
James

Re: Old mako boat teac?

Unless you are absolutely sold on the idea of teak and it’s maintenance, the synthetic teak products are getting an excellent review by the folks at Powerboat Reports. Best of the bunch is Tek-Dek, also marketed in the U.S. as PlasDeck and PlasTeak. Closely resembles real teak, no maintenance, 10-year warranty. PBR’s evaluation included real teak (teak faced plywood … cheaper). The synthetics were preferred over the real thing. I doubt it would work for you if you're matching existing teak trim.

The review will be published in the September issue of Powerboat Reports. You can read it now at their web site if you sign up for the free 15-day trial…cancel anytime within 15-days and you won’t be on the hook for an annual subscription, although I highly recommend this publication for powerboat owners.

www.powerboat-reports.com

There was a guy selling teak on e-bay a few days ago. I think a 1x5x5ft was about 30 bucks. Not specifically for a Mako.
