Haven't post much here, but i am really puzzled now, my son has an old placomm poly boat 2 seater, due to regulations he is only allowed a 10Hp outboard, to be on the save side (fines are ridiculous here) i gave him a 7.5Hp mercury 2 cilinder 2-stroke, came together with an old mercontrol remote control, when i try to hook everything up i came to find the shifting works backwards, pushing the lever forwards puts the engine in reverse, pulling the lever to the back of the boat gets it in forward gear, have looked trough the engine side and everything is 1000%, its in de control box for sure.
Did some measurements and found out that full throttle can be achieved on both gears forward and reverse.
Placing the lever on the other side gives the same output, i am beginning to think i got the wrong control box for this engine.
need some input from the specialist overhere.

Thanks John

Yea I bet that the controls and motor are backwards in operation. You hear about this sometimes. I guess you could use it how it is until you fin the proper box.

Are you absolutely sure you don't have the shifter and throttle cables reversed at the engine? That would explain everything perfectly...

Some of the Mercury 15hp and lower control boxes were reverse control from the factory in the 60's-70's. It's probably the right box for the 7.5hp, but you can just change the cams to swap it to forward control. Some old dealer is bound to have an old set of cams on the shelf for it.
