Ha! No, I was just hoping you didn't have a full tank of fuel from when you bought it that was causing your problems. Although that would have been better as it would have been an easy fix for you and I coulda said "told ya so!!" :D Hope you get it fixed soon though. I'd like to see you enjoy the rest of the summer. Good luck.

Re: Old "mixed" outboard fuel

Ya, I told ya sos are fun sometimes, sorry to dissapoint you. Im going to enjoy the summer anyway, as a matter of fact Im going fishing this afternoon. Cant test anything though, I havnt changed anything since last time out. The boat runs excellent, but you have to hammer the throttle to get up on plane and then it is fine. I can pull back and plane along at what ever speed I want. It just dies when I come off plane every time, and I cannot go through the channel to the other lake without starting it every 2 minutes, and it takes me about 20 minutes to get through and Im holding up traffic. Ill just stay in the south lake and not worry about going to the north lake. Also the 5 MPH zones are a pain with it dying all the time, sneezing, coughing, makes me want to say SH*T!!! Maybe I will, will it help?

Avenger 71 - This is off topic, but I have an '74 Avenger Mach one with a '77 Merc 150 Tower of Power. I have just installed a rebuilt powerhead and actually launched it last night. It is pleasing to meet another old speed boat owner.

If you want to get rid of it burn it a gallon at a time mixed with a tank of new gas...it won't hurt anything.
I have no problems doing this in my old carburetored truck or lawnmower ... BUT ... DO NOT DO THIS WITH A NEWER FUEL INJECTED COMPUTER CONTROLLED CAR/TRUCK. I know from personal experience! I only added 1 gallon of old 2 stroke gas to my 25 gal tank and it F***ed it up bad. We're talking unable to go over 35 MPH spitting sputtering oh what the hell did I do crap. At first, it ran fine until I got to @ 1/2 tank ... needless to say, it took a long time to get it back to normal.

The gas you used was either REALLY old (3+ years) or REALLY dirty, because simply using bad gas will not do that. Period. I burn old, 2 cycle mix in my fuel injected Jeep all the time.

This alone shows us that the fuel you put in was contaminated with water or something, it took that long to plug up your filter or something.

We are not talking using old gas that smells like paint, and pours with chunks in it.

Nothing got plugged because I didn't do anything to the truck and it worked itself out after I ran several tanks through. The funny thing was that it ran fine in the OB, go figure. I just wanted to get rid of it because it was old. What ever the problem was, it affected the truck worse than the boat and the boat ran the old gas straight, not diluted like the truck.

I've ran old gas in my older vehicles without any problems and would do it again. You guys ran it in your vehicles without any problems. I'm just letting Avenger'71 know that I had problems when running it in my 2001 truck.

I'm actually going through the same situation right now. I picked up a fixer boat that's been sitting for over 1 year. I plan to take it out this Sunday and I'm just going to run the old gas through it and bring a full can of new gas with me. The boat is running fine on the old gas so I'm not going to mess with it this time.

Oh yeah, it's a California emmisions truck so I'm sure that won't help matters.

I like to add injector/carb cleaner to the tank to make sure the gumminess that can occur with mixed gas is dissolved before running old fuel.

Don't know where you're at Avenger, but if there's any farming going on in your vicinity, you might check to see if one of your farmer neighbors wants that 12 gallons. Old gasoline powered tractors just lap that stuff up. I've got a 50 yr. old 2-lung John Deere that runs on nothing but old gas, old pre-mix and anthing that's in doubt. It doesn't know the difference.
Bob

Re: Old "mixed" outboard fuel

Just to add "fuel to the fire" I had some old premix laying around so I poured it in my lawnmower. Thought it would smoke some and maybe drive away a few mosquitos, and it never ran that great anyway. But....The crazy thing fired right up, ran better than it ever has and didnt smoke at all! I plowed through thick tall grass and it never seemed to struggle, more power than its ever had. I dont know what to think!

It could have been running rich before, and the oil leaned it out some. (the oil taking place of some of the fuel)

Your probably right ZMOZ, because it used to put out some black smoke, but the premix cleared it up. Im going to keep running premix in it because there is no way to change the mixture.
