Old Motorbolt Holes???

I'm hanging a different motor on my bass boat and before I do, shouldn't I fill in the old holes from the last motor before I hang this motor? and if so, fill it with what?

Hi,<br />Maybe the old and the new outboard has same mounting holes pattern? If yes, you do not need to fill and then drill new holes - just use the old holes and seal the holes+bolts with a sealant that will make it waterproof, but the bolts can not be "glued" since You may want to remove the bolts in the future. Probably Sikaflex 291 or 291 LOT (not the stronger 292) will be fine.<br /> http://www.sikaindustry.com/ind/ipd-marine/ipd-marine-products.htm <br /><br />Also, mount the bolts so you have the nuts on the outside - this way the bolts will remain in transom if you will take the outboard off the transom in the future, and the seal will still be usable. Use two nuts on each bolt to "lock" them to each other when mounting the new outboard.

No the holes definately don't match that's why I'm asking this question.

I would chamfer the edges of the holes with a ream or a large drill bit, file or what ever you have at hand, then fill them with epoxy resin mixed with micro balloons to about the thickness of peanut butter or buy some already mixed up such as marine tex etc..... what ever you use, be sure it is epoxy and not polyester.....good luck

done this before..<br /><br />drill out holes with a flat/spade/paddle bit to the next closest size --- of a size of standard hard wood dowel rod..<br /><br />cut dowel to lenght JUST SHY ( mm's ) of the transom thickess .. <br /><br />epoxy dowel & hole up good .. install dowel.. just below flush.. finish off the dimple with with marine-tex epoxy putty flush with surface..

I'm with Crabby. <br /><br />Use wood to fill where there was wood and epoxy/gelcoat where there was glass/gelcoat.
