ok so heres the story. me and a friend found an old classic boat that was for sale and got it for $300. in the beggining there were ants, dirt, gas, foam all over from the seats, oh and best of all a tree of some sort growing in the middle of it. it came with an old sea king outboard that i think is a 60hp but not sure. the old windsheild we had to take off and toss cuz the whole thing was cracked and broken so we just took it off and didnt bother getting a new one. the thing has been recarpeted (not professionally but it works) new seats that we put together ourselves haha. new paint job. got some of the wiring redone and of course got a key for the ignition that had been lost years ago by the previous owner. also fixed most of the trailer and did some engine work. (darn glad im good with engines) but there is a catch. to finding an awesome motor some things we need help with to hopefully not having to try and pull start the hell out of it again :/ when trying to turn it over it sounds like it wants to but then acts like it catches on something and stops. the starter to old and week and need replacing or what? were almost done and this is worrying me. i dont want to have to pull start it cuz after trying it before its becoming a pain. plz ill take any advice on how to get it to start right up. im kinda new to it to so dont shorten words that mean something else. i want this to work. we already spent $1000 total i think and if i have to spend more for like a new starter or something plz point me in a direction where i can easily find it and order it.

THANKS FELLOW BOATERS!!

Hm.m.m.m, a 60hp Sea King? Is that a V-4 engine? That would be nice, because that is an OMC (Gale) motor and shares parts with Johnson and Evinrude.

It also means that we have a lot more experience to offer.

most starter problems are dirty connections. Take the connections loose and clean them good. You can take the starter off and take it to a shop and have them bench test it to see what it will so under a load if cleaning the connections does not help. It might be in need of just a cleaning or even knew brushes. Little spiders will get into the ones sitting and build nests and sometimes block the brushes from working. If you take it apart be careful as there will be shims that will need to go back like they came out.

The 60 is very similar to the E/J V50 and was in production 60-63.
Often thought of as a heavy motor at 205 lbs it is actually 35lbs lighter than the present Etec 40hp.It is a bit of a gas hog but has a great sound and good low end power.
