i have an old 48 johnson sea horse 9.8 horse and i dont see a fuel pump can you clue me in. Also i need to know a good way to get a fuel tank for it cleaned out. any suggestions would be great.
I belive that on that old engine the fuel was simply gravity fed from the built in tank. No need for a fuel pump for that.<br /><br />As for cleaning the tank, throw a handful of old nuts and bolts and a buch of solvent of your choice (Berrymans, Carb cleaner, whatever works for you), put the cap on and start shaking.
That must be a KD-15. I don't see a water pump in my parts book. Some of the older ones used prop pressure. There would be an intake behind and close to the prop. Some of the prop thrust is diverted to cool the motor.
The prop is probably the water pump. On my 1940 the intake is immediately behind the prop so it gets some pressure from prop and even more when the boat is moving. And...in the housing just in front of the prop is the water outlet that gets suction from the low pressure front side of the prop. Quite clever actually..also the prop is left handed..odd.
