why is it that my 57 seahorse 10 is faster than the the newer 9.9s? did they change the way they rate them over the years or what?

I don't know about everyone else, but I would expect the reverse to be true, since the 57 is crank rated.

Maybe its a 18 horse, with a 10 hp cowl?

what's the model # off the transom mount? if it is actually a 57' 10hp it just may be the set is of motor and boat is near perfect, and the 9.9 is not set up properly. i have a 55 15hp that is great. smooth idle, no coughing , or sneezing . will troll for ever, then runlike a scared cat. used Joe Reeves carb adjustments, and a decarb.

its a qd-18. maybe it is the setup. ive noticed that the wake is much closer to the other boat, where as my boat it is quite a distance from the boat b4 the water begins to rise as wake.

they are exact. both lowe 14 ft aluminum v hull. maybe my friend just got a junk motor. mine still runs like a beast though
