Monkey Ward Sea King 1 HP Model 64EA-9002A, S/N 381-01517. Appears in EC, with original wood storage box, 1952 newspaper packing in box and tube of gear case lube same vintage. What year? Any suggestions for value? Even pull starter rope appears origin al. Turns freely with good compression. I am interested in buying it and need to get idea of fair offer.

Wards makes it easy to determine the year. Reverse the "64" and you get "46".....1946. "EA" means it was made by Evinrude. I won't attempt to place a value on it, because I'd be wrong in my guess.

Thanks much for your reply. I had sort of figured out the code after looking at several of the other Sea King posts. Present offer is at 150 and the seller is considering. I think that is in the ballpark for this one, very short shaft and low power, so not a lot of market pressure for it so I might get lucky.

Re: Old Sea King 1 HP need help in ID year

I managed to get the 1946 Sea King 1 HP Midget I wrote about yesterday, unrestored and in original wood shipping box from MW. Understand it should be 24:1 mix, label says use "30 wt motor oil". Can I use modern ashless 2 stroke oil in the mix? Any generic manuals available for this? I assume from the period that plug gap of .030 is probably right, how about replacement plug? I can't read plug marking.

My info indicates 8ozs per gallon 16:1.TCW3 rated oil will work fine. Original Plug number J7J, J7 is toward the hotter end of the chart.
I believe present numbers would be J7C. A J6C would certainly work and be cooler.Set to .025.Points set at .020.
I believe Lubriplate 105 for the gear case.

Re: Old Sea King 1 HP need help in ID year

Thanks so much to Steelspike and F_R!!! You guys are really great to come up with so much detail in such a short time. I'm really looking forward to getting this little gem running. Found a youtube video 1941 SEA KING MIDGET 1 HP - YouTube which shows a 1941 Sea King Midget running in a tank. Hope I can get this one running. Was said to have run and used up to about 10-12 years ago, then stored well drained inside the wood crate. This is my first venture into such a project ... your help is most appreciated! Friends say this engine is really old, then I remind them that it is 6 yrs younger than me! Thanks again.
