I have an old 15' Sears Deluxe fiberglass that I am trying to find some information on (specifically, the year it was built). The model number is 64151. The most information I've found on it is in this link: http://www.fiberglassics.com/sears/brochure.asp (it's the blue one). It could very well have been made in 1964, but I am looking for confirmation. Thanks.

that is about the best you are going to get, sears did not keep record that far back. boats were not register or titled until 1972. i would say the 64 in the hin, would be the year.

Wow, I have the same boat, 1964,17 foot. I know Sears didn't really make anything, but I haven't been able to find out who built the fiberglass boats for them back then. I'll check my model number and compare it to yours.

This thread may be old, but it's worth resurrecting -- for me. You guys found my boat!!!!! :D TD, if you are correct and "intelligence" is built into the model number, then my boat is a 1961 because my model number starts with 61! Wow, it's a lot older than I thought! Anyway (not that I doubted it), now that it's been established that it was sold by Sears (and Roebuck), the next question becomes... who built it??

1964 & 1965 sears fiberglass boats were made by Elgin. I have a 1965 16ft that I have recently restored with a 1964 40hp Evinrude engine. I also have the orginal catalogue from Sears.

Joe, do you have any idea how far back Elgin was making the fiberglass boats for Sears? Any idea about 1961?

Re: Old Sears fiberglass boat

Elgin was just a Sears trade name. There was no company making boats under the name Elgin. Sears contracted with boat manufacturers to supply boats for them. Those boats were all branded with Elgin, no matter who made them.

Yup, pretty much. There was nothing wrong with Sears or Montgomery Wards boats, though. I have a 1964 Sea King aluminum boat from MW, and it's still watertight. Made by Starcraft, I discovered.
