I managed to wrestle the bellows in place, but I'm not sure how the pins go in. They are the old style with the nails?

I did not take this apart. I bought the boat with the drive disassembled this far and I cannot seem to follow the OEM manuals for the life of me.

The nails go in through the rear of the gimbal ring through the steel hinge pins and are bent over where they protrude through the front. Hopefully the old nails are not sheared off and corroded in the gimbal ring. The replacement nails are larger and the receiver holes have to be drilled larger.

one nail for sure is sheared off. But I know I can drill it out.. The pins go in from the outside right, and then I carefully get the nail in place from the rear outward?

Since the nails are stainless and trying to drill them never works because the bit will not stay on the stainless nail. You will have to try to drive them out with a pin punch and sone diagonal pliers as the broken pieces come out.
