Put a 1974 Evinrude 115 with Tilt & trim on my sons 19.5' Nitro bass boat, after the boat planes off and at WOT the motor will not tilt up unless he slows down, then keeping it on plane at the slower speed it works fine, anyone know what could be causing this? Sorry for all the questions lately.
Thanks
Joe

That unit has 15? of trim, after which the tilt function takes over. The "tilt" function will not operate when under way.

If however, you're actually speaking of the "trim" 15? function not operating when underway, that is usually caused by a faulty "stand up valve" assembly that is located in the bottom portion of the starboard ram cylinder.

I must be talking tilt, when we take off we have the motor all the way down to get on plane then at WOT the top button on the throttle lever will not tilt the motor up but when we slow the boat and still on plane the button will work and tilt the motor up, I hope I'm explaining this correctly.

Some of those had tilt only. They were used to raise the motor when trailering or in shallow water, but not for trim.

Describe your tilt or tilt/trim assembly, the physical details, appearances.

This is it> http://www.boats.net/parts/search/BRP/EVINRUDE/1974/135443B 1974/POWER TILT AND TRIM/parts.html

I'm bringing up this post again because I'm putting this motor on my 1987 Skeeter 18.5 Ft. bass boat. Post #5 here http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=248672 has pictures of the t/t unit I'm talking about. I like some ideas about the tilt not working at hi speed.
Thanks
Joe

If you click the thumbnail twice, you can read the way the 1975 factory service manual describes the interaction of the trim cylinder and tilt cylinder while under way at speed.

Usually, when the system has insufficient power to offset the thrust of the engine, it is because the trim cylinder is not operating at capacity.

The flow chart shows the hydraulics when the motor is moved away from the stern.

The text is from the 1975 factory Service Manual

The diagram came from OMC Service Bulletin #1363, dated April 1975. See the service department at your dealership; maybe thay still have a copy.
