Hi,I bought a 4 hp merc today that was extremely clean, but i was a little
dis-appointed to research it and find it a 1974..(the person who sold it had no clue as to the year)anyway the ser # is 3936540 I looked at some of the sites posted but did not see any illistrations of what I think I need. The motor
runs but it seems the part that controls the throttle is not doing it's thing
as it will only idle, the mechanism is some type of gear drive from the tiller
that seems to be stripped inside the housing because the tiller throttle will spin 360' and never throttle up
I don't even know what part i need? is there any sites with FREE parts
diagrams on the oldies? thank's

sure am glad for the help!

sure am glad for the help!

I sure am glad I found this site, and I'll try not to be a pita with questions.
The crowley site had good part's ilistrations(sp)but a LOT of them are no
longer available...do you know where I could download or look at a basic
owners manual for this model? I don't need the maintenance or set up stuff
i just want to know how it was equipt? the guy I bought it from started
it on first pull, but had to use the choke to kill it,even then it was a slow, sputtering stop..did these not have kill buttons or switches? scary!
the choke button seem's to push in and be spring loaded, but is this it the kill button also? because it does nothing to stop the motor when pushed in..any ideas?
I only paid $ 100 for the motor, and it's very clean, told was only run in fresh water, and crank's usually on first pull so I think it was a good deal? thank's
again for any info/help on the "black phantom" lol.....
