Older Lower unit, Straight Skeg?

Hi there. I've got this older lower unit. I'm trying to identify it so I can get it out of the garage ASAP. It seems to be the exact same size as my 1960's and 1970's 33hp lower units, but they all have curved skegs.

What's the significance of the straight skeg?

Thanks,
Chris

None ... the skeg is only there to protect the prop, and curved vs straight is just cosmetic.

That look's like a case that would fit the late 50's l5, thru 60's l8HP.

It's definitely for the larger, 25-40hp motors.

Anyone know the years for different "generations" of lower units?

Does a late 50's 25hp use the exact same lower unit as a 60's 33hp or a 70's 40hp?

I'm planning on selling this and I want to be informative and honest about this lower unit's applications

The straight skeg is for newer motors than the curved kind. Now, to answer the rest of the question, there are other differences. The 33 and 40 hp gearcases are not the same. Except the LATER 40hp motors ARE the same. From what I can see, you have a later 40hp gearcase (1971-up) It should fit a 33, but not a 1960-70 40hp

It must be just me. In the picture, it just look's small for a big twin type gearcase.

I had to take a double look also. But it is a 33-40hp. Count the bolt holes.
