Older Merc 700 70hp what year

I have just been given an older 70hp Merc 3cyl. ser.#4979258 can anybody tell me the year model ? also where in the world is the timing pointer, is it like the old 65hp I used to have with a clip on one ? or is it on the top cover ? Im a good tech I can make one if needed cause theres not one in the cowling to clip on somewhere if thats what it should have. I plan on doing the timing and sync. but I need a pointer to do this.
