As a summary Drive Shaft 35 fits into the bottom of Drive Shaft 47. Every thing as far as disassembly to replace the Impeller has been tough. Corrosion mostly from **** a## poor maintenance or lack of. The two drive shafts are not pulling apart which after what I have been through is not surprising. I would like to know is what kind of downward pressure can be placed on shaft 35 to seperate it from DriveShaft 47. Once these two Shafts are seperated I will be able to service the Impeller Assembly.

Re: OMC 1975 High Profile Upper Drive Shafts

the 2 splines were supposed to have grease in them once upon a time....sounds like either the grease has become real old and tacky and hard like glue, or washed out and they've corroded together. Or the splines stripped and then welded themselves together. How to pull that out I dunno.....I'm picturing attaching a slide hammer to vice grips somehow.
Or, it looks like nut #44 would let the upper shaft out with the lower (trying to picture in my head if that's possible)

or, fill a 5 gallon pail with penetrating oil, dump that unit in, snap the lid on and open it in 10 years... :)

put castrol Pyroplex blue on those splines when they go back together.

I think I will leave the approach to #44 as a last shot. I would be at least talking about Labor for a rebuild and seal. That of coarse is assuming no major parts need replacing. All the parts inside that Gearcase bought as components are expensive. There is the also the possibility of a Donor Upper GearCase Assembly.

Something like the Slide Hammer looks like my next shot at this.

Thanks Kjdkjd
