my boat is a bayliner with omc 2.3 4cyl. it has a problem with bogging when i take off and sometimes stalling out and dying. it has gotten worst now it used to run for about a half an hour, but now i can not even take it out for a couple of minutes. it runs fine at an idle or barely going. but when running and taking off it will bogg and cut out. it runs fine in my driveway testing it. i replaced the point, plugs, rotor, fuel filter. next i am going to try coil and distributor cap.

any help would be appreciated.

Back track a bit, have you done anything to alter the way it runs prior to the problem? If not, check fuel flow, tune up like you mentioned. If that gets you nowhere, rebuild the carb. Good luck. I had a similar problem, but mine was the previous owner making a plug for the carburetor. Good luck.

When you changed the points, did you set the gap or the dwell. The dwell is the way to go. Also have you double checked the timing. Dwell should be 36 degress +/-2 and the timing is 10 BTDC. Also depending on the age the advance might be hanging up or not functioning properly. This would allow you to idle in the driveway fine but die in the water. I've got a 87 Bayliner with a 2.3 and have been down your road before. Also when you changed the points did you also change the condenser?

Just a few thoughts..

i did not do any of that i am waiting for my manual to come(i got the clymer manual) so i can set that stuff or learn how to set it. I did get a new condensor. I am trying to find a distributor cap next. Did your bayliner run a little but then start choking and bogging out when you took of in the water. sometimes it will run a little then start like cutting out and almost dying then die sometimes or if i let off the throttle it will stay running sometimes. Is your controler hard to get set right too?

thanks
