I have a 17' silverline open bow with the 2.3 omc outdrive. Just a little background...I bought the boat with a cracked head, the boat has set from last summer too now. I fixed the head problem. It starts and idels great but sputters and cut out at rpms anywhere above 3000 I can try too accelerate but it wont, I can pull the throttle back and it smooths out again,I run it at home with the muffs on and it runs fine at any rpm. So far I have set the timing, dwell, and points to specs, changed fuel filter, put fresh gas in it, took carb apart and blew jets out and ports, new spark plugs and wires. Could my problem be in the coil, or maybe the carb, or neither.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

How did you fix the head problem? Assuming you replaced the head did you replace it with a new or reconditioned one or did you just get another second hand head and fit it? Lots of things can cause your problem and it may have nothing to do with the work you have done or it may be directly related to what you have done. On the face of it I will say you may have a vacuum leak causing a fuel starvation problem, this is usual if the engine with free rev but will not pull under load. Other causes include incorrectly adjusted valves, poor fuel pressure or a low adjusted float level. Have you checked the cap and rotor for wear? If you can get hold of a vacuum gauge that will often lead you to the cause.
