I did a search for this problem after I posted a ? about it down the list (87 omc 2.3) I found a problem that was similar but had different reactions. I was told look at the shift interupter switch( adjustment), the fuse thats in the motor comp?, and key switch. Are these good places to look and is there any other suggestions. Also how do you tell if the shift interupter is out of adjustment and how do you adjust this/<br />Thank you for all of your help.

Re: Omc 2.3 stalling

Toby....you should try and get yourself a manual for this engine. The Cobras have a thing called ESA (Enhanced Shift Ass) it has a couple of microswitches and a sealed module attached to the distributor, while shifting the switch makes and the module pulses the ignition (knocks the RPMs down around half) to make it easier to shift in and out of gear. The second switch (overstroke) kicks in at the end of the shift to prevent the ESA from staying engaged. You can check these switches very easily. While engine is running in nuetral (approx 600 rpm) try to activate the shift interupt switch (its a microswitch with a lever attached that fits into a v shape bracket) when you activate the switch the engine rpms will drop a few hundred but it shouldn't stall. If thats OK then find the overstroke switch next to it and hold it's button in and hit the interupt switch again, if the ngine doesn't drop in RPM then then both switches are OK and you have to elsewhere. I'm attaching a link to Stuarts Cobra Site that has a lot of info and pictures about shift cables, ESA, etc. Try to print the info off and keep it for reference....sorry for the long post.
