Could someone please tell me the adjustment procedure for the 2 mixture jets on my 1990 2.3L OMC/Ford carb. What should the idle be in neutral? My manual says 600 in gear. Thank You, Ed

Idle on the trailer (on water muffs) should be around 750.

Basically the idle screws go in (clockwise) for lean
and out for rich.

You should run the engine to warm it up and one at a time go lean (in) until it starts to run rough and back out until it is smooth. Then do the other and back and forth a few times to make sure they are about equally adjusted.

If you turn it in and there is no change you need a carb rebuild as fuel is leaking internally.

Start with the both screws 1 1/2 turns out. NEVER force the screws closed.
Be gentle when turning them in or you will ruin the screws and not be able to adjust the carb.

Once you have it running smooth rev the engine up a few times (in neutral) and see if it comes back to a nice idle.

Last test is to restart. hit the key with NO throttle advance and it should start with a little rev and settle back to idle. Do this a few times to be sure.

If the engine bogs on rev up turn the screws out 1/8 of a turn at a time until it revs fine.

Always set your Idle to specs with the boat in the water with the normal load.
Set it to spec on the trailer and when you get in the water your idle will be too low. This is because of the back pressure created by the water level.
