A little motor glitch! The motor start's fine runs 10 miles to the fishing grounds at 25 knots shut down on the drift restart To go to another spot and when I give the motor gas it bogs down like fuel starvation or to much gas and oil like a fouled plug?????????????????/ Cant get going till I put it in neutral and rev motor for a few minutes then I slowly get going till the motor pics up steam!??????????????
The motor starts great! Idles fine!? So it can be so many things!

1. air in gas line! Will try to tighten all clamps! 2. water in gas! Will check fuel water separator! And O ring for leak! 3.fuel starvation need to pump primer bulb after long drift did not check this last time out!?? 4. over oiling and fouling plugs? Hence why when I put in neutral and rev for a few minutes it blows out the oil???? And I can get going again!????? Am I missing something???? VRO is new 4 wire! Stator and power packs new! Carbs are fine says mechanic also put new primer bulb in! new plugs and head gaskets also! and of course new water pump and impellor! Any idea's

Thanks Bogart.

Re: omc 225 2.7 litre glitch help!!!!! UPDATE!!!!

Great! A little more background so we can "see" what we got.

What grade fuel and type oil? Are you running with the airbox cover on? We assume you are and therefore we also assume the jets have never been fooled with, correct?

You said the mechanic said there was no problem with the carbs so we assume (again) that they are not flooding and/or the emulsion tubes are not crumbling.

One thing I would look at is the primary and secondary connections on the coils. Sometimes they get a green "crud" on them and set up a resistance and it will act as you describe. Pop the wires off, clean the terminals, put on some dielectric grease and pop 'em back on. It can't hurt to clean the grounds while youre there. Ive seen it make a lot bigger difference that I thought it would.

Good luck!

While youre looking at the connections, look up under the flywheel and make sure the magnets are not loose.

Good luck!

Re: omc 225 2.7 litre glitch help!!!!! UPDATE!!!!

From your description of the problem of trying to get going again after the motor is shut down for a while, it sounds like a classic case of "heat soak", or sometimes (erroneously) called vapor lock. The fuel inside the carbs boils off because of the engine heat and it takes a while for the fresh fuel to be pumped in and to cool down the carb bodies, then it runs fine.

Sometimes the "winter blend" fuel is more volatile and contributes to the problem, as does alcohol and fuel additives poured in the tank. You can minimize the problem by allowing the motor to idle for a few minutes before shutting down. Some folks "crack open" the motor cover to cool the engine quickly.

Before starting, squeeze the ball until firm and then let the motor idle a few moments to stabilize the intake manifold and carb temperatures.

The flywheel is new? Are we positive we have the early wheel (86-87) and not the late one (88 & up)?

The "break points" on the flywheel hub are in different places. Your dealer will have a chart to tell which is which. Or compare it to another. If you compare it to a 1988 and newer, the lines on the center hub should be different and youll know its the right one. Also make sure the center hub magnet has not moved or is loose.

Good luck!

Re: omc 225 2.7 litre glitch help!!!!! UPDATE!!!!

hello
the fuel system primer bulb is on the suction side of the fuel pump and will never stay hard. dont matter what ya do. if you suspect the gas is draining back down the line then there is a check valve from yamaha that can be installed. if you can push the choke in and it takes off, that means at least 3 things.
one is the cold start primer solinoid is working,2 is we have fuel under pressure from the fuel pump and 3 the carb circuits are partially clogged or the fuel level in the fuel bowls is very low. when you push the key in it activates a fuel primer solinoid that allows fuel to bypass the carbs and is sprayed directly from the VRO pump into the intake manifold. check and flush the carbs and check for any air leaks on the pulse limiter or the fuel vacum side.
good luck and keep posting

Re: omc 225 2.7 litre glitch help!!!!! UPDATE!!!!

if you are using the quick connect fittings replace the female.
mine was allowing air to pass if hose was moved, then bulb would get soft - causing fuel starvation. just a thought
