Re: OMC 235 starter problems

I wonder if the ford starter I purchased had a defective casting or something. If that is the case, there should be no reason why I cannot return it. The Arco starter went into position without any resistance. Here is a pic of the broken ford starter.

By the way, I wish my 235 OMC looked that good!

You're one bold dude KRH. That was an amazing transformation. I never thought that outdrive would have ridden again. With all that mess in the bilge, how much deterioration was there?

Re: OMC 235 starter problems

Thanx WO

Once I cleared the bilge/ engine compartment, I found ZERO rot. Transom and all. By taking on someone elses project, I have to guess at what things were done, and why.

The only thing that I found out of the ordinary down there was that some work had been done to the stringers. It appears to me that maybe the original bolts holding the engine mounts and the intermediary housing had stripped free from the stringers. It looks like someone injected a real heavy epoxy into all bolt holes, then drilled and tapped back into it. Two lengths of stainless angle were installed onto the tops of the stringers, then those drilled and tapped for the engine and int. housing mount bolts.

I do know that the whole rear end of that is rock solid.

I had one other Winner boat prior to this one. That thing was a battle tank too. Winner boats , not as big as this one, are real popular around me with the clam diggers. They swear that they are the heaviest floating rocks. They like to cut down one gunwal to thier knee height and add a heavy wood rail for raking.

I had been told that Winner was known for extra heavy fiberglass use, and that had helped add to thier fiscal demise. When Thompson took them over, I had heard that Thompson continued to build real tuff boats as well.

Anyway, she is a rock.

Just got back from the lake, and back on the forum. All I can say is WOW! You did a great job on that boat man! Gives me some inspiration for my project.
