Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and did some quick research before posting. I have recently procured an '88 Four Winns with a 3.0 OMC Cobra motor. My dad and I were going to take it out today for the first time and found the trim is not working. At first inspection we found the 50 amp fuse to be blown. After replacing that we are only getting a click from the solenoids. Should replacing the solenoids solve the problem? I hate to go dropping more money if it doesn't solve the problem. I'm more familiar with motorcycles and cars and know that a clicking starter solenoid is a problem when the engine won't start. Is it the same with the trim/tilt solenoids? I'm new to boats and would appreciate any and all help. Thanks!!!

well, as simple as it may seem, you have 2 electrical items that are both not working... from my experience, with a clicking starter, the first place I always check is a dead battery. The battery would also cause the trim not to respond.. If the battery is known good, then you need to look at what would cause a 50 amp fuse to pop.. that's a big current draw or short to make pop

Thanks for the advice. I'm almost positive the battery is good. The boat starts and run great. And everything else has power. When I get home from I'll test the solenoids with a volt meter to see if there is power coming out of the solenoid. This is at least going to be my starting point.

Re: OMC 3.0 trim

Ok, so on the two solenoids for the trim, the line coming from the fuse is hot. The small top line is only hot when you click the trim switch. But the green and blue lines going to the trim motor are both hot, no matter which button is pushed, up and down. Should that be the case? I thought only the green should be hot on down and blue should be hot on up. I'm not the best on electrical and could really benefit from a wiring diagram. Anyone know where to find one?

Ended up getting two new solenoids, put them in last night, and we have power. We will be back in the water!!!
