Good Afternoon everyone,
been a long time since last posting due to almost 2 years without any major problems. Ahhh... one can only go so long however.
Engine OMC 3.0 Liter
Sterndrive model 400 series
Prop 13 1/4 x 17
Problem:
Running just under WOT today everything was operating just like normal, then slowly began to develop a hesitation and started slowing down. Stopped engine, checked gauges, everything seemed ok. Took off again and everything seemed fine for about 4 minutes and hesitation developed again. Stopped and checked everything over once again and everything seemed fine. Figured might be the fuel filter so i headed to the marina to get one. after about 5 minutes the engine rapidly excelerated and the out drive seemed to disengage. immediately shut down engine. This time i entered the water to check on the drive. turning prop by hand all seemed good and free in neutral, but in either drive or reverse, the prop felt like it was jumping on a gear rather than fully engaging. there was a noise seeming to come from the union of the upper and lower unit internally when turning by hand. Noticed a very, very light sheen of oil by out drive. Towed boat back to dock and loaded and brought home. Checked the fluid in the lower unit and it looked just like the day it was replaced. Checked the fluid in the upper half and then the problem began to reveal itself, it was a milky solution.
Engine is running smooth and has no problems at all when in neutral.
Questions:
1. Most Likely problem/problems?
2. Other steps to help diagnose problem further?
3. Best resolution to problem.... (For you OMC Haters, getting rid of it is not the answer i am looking for)?
4. Any other tips, helpful information will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You in advance for any assistance!
Happy boating to all
