Been away for twelve months so not been able to use boat at all. Prior to going lubed everything and did what I could to preserve and protect her. Put new condenser new plugs, fresh oil etc, this being last year. Fitted them then had to go away, as I say new parts never used boat has not moved in 12 months. Tried today to start her up , loads of power , turned over fine but no joy in starting. Then realised still had small amount of fuel in, should have drained tank last year DIDN'T DOH!! Tell me would the fuel be the problem. Have taken plugs out they were wet with fuel so I know that engine is getting fuel, anyway dried them off. Battery then ran down so now got it on charge. Everything else seems ok, what do you think guys stale fuel?

Ayuh,... Are they Sparking,..?? The points may have glazed over....

It takes Fuel, Fire, Compression, at the right Time for a motor to Run...

You're missing 1 of the 4,+ Only You can figure out Which 1.....

Check for spark, fuel should be fine after only 1 year.
If you ran the engine long enough to set dwell and timing, the points are probably glazed over and won't work. That's why you do tuneups before going to the water, not before storage.

Cleaning points is only a method suitable for troubleshooting and as a "Get Home" repair.
Time for a FULL tuneup, new points, condensoer, cap, rotor, and plugs at minimum.
Then you need to set the dwell to specs, then timing and check advance timing, adjusting carb mixture, and idle speed.
It all needs to work right at the same time, not one piece at a time if you want best performance.

Good call Don. I would have needed at least another symptom.;)

...and this is why I like older stuff - points, carbs, etc. They can almost always be bandaided to get back in.
Electronic Ignition, Fuel Injection - better have towing insurance.
