I found some rubber in the exhaust housing in the foot of the outdrive, just one piece about the size of a dollar coin.I removed it and havent noticed any performance issues.I read on this site about a burn't exhaust flapper valve and was wondering if this could be it?What affect on performance would a burn't flapper have ?And I imagine the only way to see, is to remove the exhuast to check it. Thanks Brad

There will be no affect with the running issue.Just dont stop fast or back the boat into the water fast.Sometime just turning off the engine in the water can suck water back in the engine.

I have definitely stopped fast since I found the rubber, with no ill affects. But I guess you could probably lose a little piece of it and still be forwarded some protection. When I pulled the outdrive this year ,I found some heavy nylon line in the shift mechanism(the exhaust is also housed there)Don't know how it got there but maybe it was a piece of that. Thanks for the qiuck reply ,I think I'll pull the exhaust just to make sure.
