In changing out an impeller on a'96 AM35-D which hadn't been done in over 7 yrs. I removed the lower unit and this rubber coated fiber tube fell out.

Does anyone know how this fits in the exhaust chamber there are no round casted sections which this would even faintly go into.

Never seen one before. Don't know why it's there. Only thing I can think of is the exhaust tuner was corroded and this was some kind of home fix.

This is a MARS motor build for the military. Made in '95-'96, I don't know much about it. It has a de-watering valve designed to expel water and be started after complete submersion.

That explains it. I never had any experience with those mts but seeing it's a MARS, you may want to try and find a parts break down. That part was put in for a reason. My guess would be it was a one way check valve to keep water out of the cyl's when the mtr was submerged and let the exhaust out when running.

Re: OMC 35 hp exhaust (AM35-D)

After another look there is a round insert up in the extension housing which this would fit, but it would then end about 1/2 to 3/4' above the lower unit with nothing for it to fit to on the bottom end I can't see how this could possibly stay up in there without something to hold it in position.

Am I missing something which would fit in the lower unit.

Trouble is I really don't know what commercial model this equals to look at in a manual.

Best thing to do is find a parts break down of the mtr and go from there. You may want to call BRP customer service and ask them. 1-262-884-5993.

Re: OMC 35 hp exhaust (AM35-D)

Didn't get any help from them. I got a manual '96 9.9 thru 30 2cyl, which looks like it should help and the parts cat 20-35 rope models.

Looking at the exploded view I think this tube goes on the bottom of my inner exhaust tube, just wondering if I have a modified exhaust tube?

Does the bottom of the exhaust tube (PART #10)omc mid section (Medium).jpg fit into a mating exhaust section in the lower unit? or does it just dump into the lower section without a tight fit? I can't really tell by the book, but it doesn't look long enough.

Also my drive shaft has a plastic sleeve over the bottom 8" (see pic in 1st post) I didn't see this in the books? Is this to shield it from exhaust?
