Hi :) I have rebuildt my omc transom using the sei conversion kit. Everything worked out wery smooth and i used approx 4 hours on the job.

Here comes the problem. I thought i had aligned the engine good enough, but when i was out on the sea there was a grinding sound coming from the transom and it smellt a little burnt rubber. The sound was not loud and i did not run fast, but i guess this will have to be fixed.

My question is this: Has anyone rebuildt their system using the sei kit and a merc leg? Do u know if the engine needs to be lowered or raised for the alignement to be correct?

I am hoping that i do not need to lift the boat out of the water to do this :) Shouldnt it be possible to hear when the noise dissappears?

Did you replace the gimbel bearing,..??

My guess is, Yes, the boat needs to be pulled to complete the job started...

Describe your alignment procedure.

I do believe that you are the first on these boards to do that conversion.

You need to contact SEI about your issues.

Hi. I used the drive shaft from the cobra drive to check the alignment. It slided in nice, but when i think about it it may have been that i did not get it in long enough :(

I know i should use the right tools, but everything seemed to be ok. But if the shaft slides in nice thru the gimbal an partiallyinto the coupler i guess it is the front of the engine that needs to be adjusted?

Btw the gimbal bearing is ok. I put my hand in and turned it without any problems.

You need to do it with an alignment bar! Lessons learned I am afraid.

I wouldn't trust that coupler at this point.
